FaerieFest 2016

Fall is upon us friends and with the changing of the colors and the chill beginning to build in the wind we find ourselves entering a new and magical time of the year. Still warm enough for the fairies to frolic and the autumn fauns to play their pipes in the groves. I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful gathering as this just this weekend. In the early fall in Solvang, Ca. for the past several years there has been a quaint little festival held at the Solvang Festival Theater where fae from all over gather to listen to enchanting music, watch dancers float across the stage, shop for a new piece of magic to add to their collection, listen to stories from talented storytellers, and make new friends. And since it is “Magic Monday” I thought I would share my experience from Saturday with all of you.

Location, Surroundings, and Admission:

  • As far as the location is concerned, the scenery is absolutely beautiful. The outdoor grounds are small and intimate much like a grove would be, but still open enough that passers by could watch those withing frolicking in the dappled sunlight.
  • Admission was also very affordable. Original pricing was only $15.00 for adults and as the event got closer that dropped down just $10.00. Even better was that patrons could come and go from the event at will all day long meaning that you could pop in for an act you wanted to see or to shop or visit and then take a break and shop around the Danish village or enjoy and of the many bakeries in town before returning.
  • Around the outside of the little park area there were booths with vendors set up for all kinds of fun little trinkets from figurines to keepsake boxes, wands, staves, decorations, leather-working, ceramics, and jewelry. And at the heart of the grass was this large set of trees surrounded by a brick circles where they had made all the cute life-sized toadstools you see in the picture above as a backdrop to Thomas the Truthful’s storytelling area and the face painting booth.

The Entertainment:

  • The acts that were performing at the event were great. They had enchanted harm music, a local modern dance troupe, storytellers, a band, ballet, and more at the main stage. They also held a couple of costume contests for the patrons. One for the children who were all just as cute as neverbugs, and one for the adults.

So what did I take away from this small, but growing event?

I cannot wait for next year. The people were all very friendly, the environment was nurturing and warm, the vendors had amazing wares for sale, and the opportunity to gather with others with similar interests in such a cozy little town was priceless. So I’ll leave you with a couple of group shots here from the rest of the event…
